The Opportunity Awaits

The Council Operations Leading Hand plays a key hands‑on leadership role, supporting the Team Leader to deliver high‑quality municipal services across the community. This position combines on‑the‑ground operational work with day‑to‑day supervision, ensuring parks, gardens, facilities, civil works, airstrip maintenance, and waste services are delivered safely and efficiently.

What your day will look like, but are not limited to: 

Your days will be varied and active, balancing supervision, planning, and practical work. You’ll help guide daily operations while working alongside the team to deliver Council services safely and to standard.
  • Assist the Team Leader with day‑to‑day supervision of the Council Operations team.
  • Ensure maintenance of parks, gardens, streets, road verges, and community facilities.
  • Assist with airstrip maintenance, inspections, and reporting.
  • Promote safe work practices and adherence to Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Mentor and support staff to build skills and maintain productivity

The Ideal Candidate Profile

You are a practical and approachable leader who enjoys working alongside your team. You communicate clearly, lead by example, and take pride in delivering reliable services to the community. You’re comfortable planning workloads, solving problems on the ground, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently—particularly in a remote or regional environment.

You will bring: 

  • Strong communication and people‑leading skills.
  • Confidence in supervising staff while maintaining a hands-on approach.
  • An understanding of municipal operations such as parks, gardens, civil works, or waste services.
  • Sound judgement and prioritises safety in daily operations.

Other Requirements 

  • White Card (or ability to obtain).
  • First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain).
  • Criminal History Check (issued within the last 3 months).
  • Current Working with Children’s Clearance (Ochre Card).
  • Valid unrestricted Driver’s Licence.
