How You’ll Make a Difference
As the Community Broadcasting Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the local radio station reflects the voices, culture, and priorities of the community. You will support daily broadcasting operations while encouraging community members to participate in radio programming and content creation.
Through your work, you will help preserve language, promote local initiatives, and strengthen communication between Council, community groups, and residents.
Day‑to‑Day Duties Will Include, but Are Not Limited To:
- Supporting the operation of the community radio station and daily broadcasts
- Presenting and assisting with on‑air radio programs
- Working with community members to develop and record local content
- Updating and maintaining the radio station’s website and digital content
- Assisting with care and basic maintenance of broadcasting equipment
- Liaising with Council, stakeholders, and community organisations
- Encouraging community engagement and participation in broadcasting activities
The Ideal Candidate Profile
This role suits someone who is confident, community‑minded, and passionate about sharing local stories. You will be comfortable engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and representing the community on air.
Being able to connect with community members, speak publicly, and communicate respectfully is essential to success in this role.
You Will Bring:
- Ability to speak publicly and confidently with members of the community
- Demonstrated skills in radio presentation or broadcasting
- Knowledge of basic computer systems and software relevant to the role
- Knowledge of the relevant local Australian Indigenous language (or willingness to learn)
- Previous experience in broadcasting services, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge
- Experience working with Indigenous people or in culturally sensitive environments
- A genuine interest in community storytelling and engagement
Education Requirements
- Certificate III in Media & Broadcasting, or willingness to obtain
Other Requirements
- Criminal History Check (obtained within the last 3 months)
- Current Working With Children’s Clearance
- Current Driver’s Licence
