We are seeking a motivated and skilled Council Operations Officer to join our team. This role plays a crucial part in maintaining our community spaces and supporting various operational tasks.

Role Overview

The Council Operations Officer is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of recreational parks, gardens, facilities, and minor civil works. Additionally, this role involves delivering waste management services and managing the landfill site, ensuring adherence to Council standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and construction tasks at parks, gardens, road verges, airports, cemeteries, and recreational areas.
  • Carry out plant and tree maintenance, grounds maintenance, reticulation installation, and turf care.
  • Manage weed and pest control, whipper snipping, and mowing operations.
  • Remove debris and litter from parks and gardens, assisting with landscaping and gardening projects.
  • Support waste collection, disposal, and maintenance at the community landfill site.
  • Assist in the construction and delivery of minor civil works.
  • Maintain equipment and machinery in safe and serviceable condition, reporting any issues to the Council Operations Team Leader.
  • Ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety regulations and Council policies.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gardening practices and a passion for maintaining community spaces.

  • Experience in ground maintenance, landscaping, mowing, turf care, and weed control.
  • Proficient in using equipment and machinery pertinent to Council operations.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of waste management, civil works, and parks and gardens principles.
  • Knowledge of Work Health & Safety standards.

Preferred qualifications include a Chemical Handling Certificate, relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in Parks & Gardens, and plant competencies. A current NT Drivers License, National Police Check, and Working with Children’s Card are essential.

Salary & Employment Conditions

The salary for this position is $50,815.10. Employment conditions will be outlined in the employment offer letter and adhere to the Victoria Daly Regional Council Enterprise Agreement 2021-2023.
