About Kalkarindji

Located south of Katherine, Kalkarindji is a historical town famous for its 1966 station worker strike led by spokesman Vincent Langiari, which sparked the birth of the Aboriginal Land Rights movement in Australia. We commemorate this occasion every year with the annual Gurindji Freedom Day festival, where people from far and wide travel to the region to pay their respects and enjoy three full days of culture, music, tours, and of course, spectacular views of the NT.
