The Victoria Daly Regional Council originated as part of the Local Government reforms in the Northern Territory.

When working with us, you will manage and operate a series of programs that are deeply impactful to the community. These programs include the Community Night Patrol and the Remote School Attendance Strategy. The Community Patrol Program has a dedicated team of 27 passionate individuals and has achieved an Indigenous employment rate of 90%. The program contributes to community safety by limiting exposure to the Criminal Justice System through proactivity, diversion and brief interventions.

The Remote School Attendance Strategy is a community-focused strategy that employs teams of local Indigenous supervisors and officers to help get children to school. Operating in the Kalkarindji and Yarralin communities, the program works closely with the Department of Education Student Engagement Team to educate the community on the importance of education and ensure all children in the community attend school every day.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Community Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our team in Katherine, NT.

In this varied and unique role, your key responsibility will be to manage the Night Patrol Program, Remote School Attendance Strategy Program, Sport & Recreation, Radio Broadcasting and other general programs that may be required. 

Your core duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing staff and administrative aspects of the program efficiently and effectively;
  • Facilitating submissions to the Government for the development of programs;
  • Ensuring all appropriate records and reports are maintained under all legal requirements, Council policies and Governmental departmental requirements are completed and maintained; and
  • Being active in Emergency Evacuations and preparing to carry out any emergency response tasking under Community Emergency Response Plans

What we need from you

The Council is looking for a motivated and proactive individual who possesses a tertiary qualification and demonstrated industry knowledge in counselling, community safety and services. Previous experience in managing community service programs is also essential.

You will be an excellent communicator, with well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. As you will have several reports under you, high-level decision-making, organisational and strong management skills are paramount.

You will need a current Driver's License, preferably manual and a Working with Children Clearance (OCHRE Card). Police and criminal history checks also need to be completed before you commence in this role.

Please Note: You are required to have both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.

In return for the work you will be doing, you will receive an attractive salary package circa $94,114 – $100,161 (dependent on experience) plus 10% super and Remote Area Allowance of $1,039 per annum.
